Instadebit has closed: the dates, what happened to balances, and what casinos take instead
By Maureen Tessier · last checked
Instadebit, the Canadian online-banking wallet, has shut down. Here you'll find the exact dates from its own notice, what happened to money left in accounts, how it differs from iDebit, and the methods Canadian casino cashiers use in its place. The short answer for most players: Interac e-Transfer, which Instadebit itself names as the alternative.

What Instadebit's notice says
The login page of instadebit.com now carries one notice: "InstaDebit service is ending".Source [1] It sets two dates. The last day to deposit was February 27, 2026. Balances could still be withdrawn until April 30, 2026.
The same notice covers money that stayed behind: "Any remaining balance is automatically sent to your linked bank account after 28 days of inactivity." It names one alternative for future payments, Interac e-Transfer.Source [1]
The login form is still online, with "Log In" and "Forgot Your Password?". That lets former customers see their history, but deposits and withdrawals through Instadebit are over.
Who ran Instadebit
Instadebit belonged to Paramount Commerce, a payments company in Toronto. Paramount's own history page calls it the company's first product, built to let people pay "directly from their bank account without the need for an e-wallet".Source [2]Source [3] Paramount has published no separate press release about the closure that we could find; the notice on instadebit.com is the primary source.
Instadebit is not iDebit
The two names are close, and many casino pages mix them up. They are separate services:
| Detail | Instadebit | iDebit |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Closed: deposits ended Feb 27, 2026 | Website offline since January 2024; no closure notice |
| How it paid | Wallet funded from your bank | Payment approved in your online banking |
| Fee per payment | — | C$1.50 in the archived 2024 FAQ |
| Our page | This page | iDebit status page |
iDebit's FAQ, archived in January 2024, described a service that "enables you to make payments to merchants directly from your online banking account".Source [4] Its domain no longer resolves, which is why we keep the iDebit page separate from this one.
What to use at a casino cashier now
Instadebit itself points to Interac e-Transfer.Source [1] It is also named on the banking page of every casino in our tables. Four details decide how it works for you:
- Your bank sets the limit. Interac says limits are "typically $2,000 to $3,000 per transaction for consumers".Source [5]
- Your bank sets the fee. Many account plans include e-Transfers; some charge per transfer.Source [5]
- The recipient is a processor. The e-Transfer usually goes to a company such as Gigadat, not to the casino by name. Our Gigadat page shows what that looks like in your banking app.
- Withdrawals can take longer than deposits. The casino's pending period comes first, then the processor's own schedule.
Pros and cons of switching to Interac
Pros
- Works from every Canadian bank, per Interac
- No separate wallet to open or verify
- Instadebit's own notice names it as the alternative
Cons
- Limit set by your bank, typically $2,000–$3,000 per transfer
- Some casinos take Interac for deposits only
- A processor's name, not the casino's, appears on the transfer
My verdict
If you used Instadebit, the account is finished and any balance should already be back in your bank. I would switch to Interac e-Transfer before trying a lesser-known wallet: it runs through your own bank, its limits are published by your bank, and it is what Instadebit itself recommends. Check the casino's withdrawal methods before the first deposit, because Interac in and Interac out are not always offered together. The list of Interac casinos shows both directions for each one.
Questions people ask
Is Instadebit still working?
No. The notice on instadebit.com says the service is ending: the last deposit day was February 27, 2026, and balances could be withdrawn until April 30, 2026.
What happened to the money left in my Instadebit account?
According to Instadebit's notice, any remaining balance is sent automatically to your linked bank account after 28 days of inactivity. If it has not arrived, check that the linked bank account is still open.
Is iDebit the same as Instadebit?
No. They are two different services with different websites. iDebit's own website has been offline since early 2024, so it has its own status page on this site.
What replaced Instadebit at casinos?
Instadebit's notice names Interac e-Transfer as the alternative. At most casino cashiers that accept Canadians, an Interac deposit goes through a processor such as Gigadat or PayDirect.
Why does a casino still list Instadebit?
A banking page that shows Instadebit after February 2026 has not been updated. The method cannot work, so pick another one in the cashier.
